I'm With The Genremongers
W/r/t “witch house” itself, I’ve been sufficiently taken to investigate a few of the artists, but not enough to bother with delving right in (and “witch house” is a bit of a misnomer in that it seems to have precisely nothing to do with house). However this track by White Ring is really incredible, as if a murder victim - a horror film is the obvious situation, but Three 6 Mafia’s horrorcore scenarios also spring to mind - suddenly turned into the real menace. Love the use of gunshots.New Guardian column! It’s not really about witch house though it’s “about” witch house. I wanted to do a column about the problems of genre which was written without the comfort blanket of an in-the-know tone. Whether I succeeded or not I dunno (especially as I’ve not checked the edit yet). This has something tangentially to do with Nitsuhs “whither underground?” link/conversation from earlier, too, I think.
