Kelis - Call On Me
TOTAL CURVEBALL. This is not what I was expecting from her. Instareaction: huh what…yessss? Second reaction: YESSS, LIFE, THOSE HORNS THAT BASSLINE. Third reaction: I guess this is on loop for the foreseeable

In which I go in on worthless hypescam Jai Paul and his terrible music (and throw shade at lots of music journalists).
Guardian | Charli XCX | Live review
I went to see Charli XCX at the Old Blue Last on Wednesday and reviewed it. I pitched it because it’s really rare that I hear a new artist and have so little idea what I think about them that I need to write about them to tease it out. I think if I was 15, Charli XCX would be incredibly important to me, and I guess I’m a touch frustrated that everything is clicking except that “OMG I live 4 u” emotional resonance, and I’m not sure if it’s me not being 15 (although I still get that with plenty of artists!) or if she needs a couple more years to really grow into her songwriting. I’m really on board with keeping an eye on her, though.
On-point privilege zing aside, it’s really really really not that accurate though. I mean even the BOOZE one isn’t accurate. Unconvinced that whoever’s behind these has ever done anything stronger than a Nurofen.Accurate.

from occupythediscoAn exercise in reading refreshing zings about a truly dreadful hypescam of an artist, too! from jonathanbogartLooking at the Jukebox’s only run-in with Jai Paul is an exercise in nostalgia at this point. Ewing! Macpherson! Skidmore (*sob*)! Eddy!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of the Tumblr generation, but I miss some of the ILXors.
I had a lil chat with Dawn Richard for the Guardian music podcast
Goldenheart remains the best album of 2013 to date, FYI.
